If you’re interested in joining the GCTC family of donors, or wish to change, upgrade or renew your gift to our theatre, you’ve come to the right place.
Our donors are the cornerstone of our organization. In fact, most of them have been supporting us annually since our very first year of operation in the late 70s.
Far out, man.
With ticket sales only covering 1/3 of our operations, we rely on donations from individuals, businesses and supporters to ensure we can continue to bring bold, brave and meaningful theatre to our stage. Donor benefits include: a tax receipt, good karma, and the knowledge that you directly contributed to ensuring the arts can continue to make a positive difference in your community.
"GCTC has been a keystone of live professional theatre in Ottawa for decades. Its stalwart support for local actors, playwrights, and musicians has helped foster a vibrant pool of talent whose innovation, expression, and creativity rivals that of much larger cities. GCTC productions make us laugh, make us cry, make us gasp and, perhaps most importantly, make us think.”
— Longtime GCTC donors Wendy D and George C
Donations to this fund serve the greatest needs of the theatre.
The Annual Fund supports everything from our productions to operations to helping keep the lights on. If you’re flexible with where your donation might land, this is the fund that could use your help the most.
A donation of $1,000 or more represents two great things: 1) you become a major GCTC donor; 2) you join the Director’s Circle.
Check out long list of perks that come with this group, including complimentary drinks at the theatre, and special engagement events like watching private rehearsals behind the scenes.
Name a Seat
Admit it. You’ve sat in our seats and thought, “How can I get my name on a seat?”
Naming a seat gives back while gifting you with something tangible in return. It’s a $2,500 one-time donation (monthly payments are not only possible, but encouraged!) and you may dedicate the seat. Patrons have honoured friends, loved ones, actors, playwrights, community organizations, businesses and even a family dog. Don’t believe us? Check out seat D4 the next time you’re in the theatre.
If you’re inspired by new play development just as Charles Dalfen was, or believe strongly in supporting the growth and education of women in theatre as Shannon Reynolds did, then you may decide to direct your gift to one or both of these endowment funds. These funds were established by friends and loved ones to help GCTC give a voice to emerging artists locally, regionally and nationally.
Our partnerships with arts-loving organizations are a big part of our success.
If reaching new audiences or broadening your engagement with the community is a priority for your business, this is a great way to show some love. We’re a nice fit if your community giving priorities include the arts, education, supporting youth or seniors, and making the arts experience as accessible as possible to everyone. We can even name a seat!
Sponsorships with GCTC allow your organization to benefit from a return on investment that enhances your visibility in the community. Over 30,000 people come through our doors every year, and more than 8,000 of them ask to be contacted regularly with information on our partnerships. We listen to what you're looking to achieve, and present all the ways GCTC can make it happen. Reach out to our Director of Development if you’d like to learn about the unlimited possibilities!
Did you know some companies offer the option of turning your GCTC volunteer hours into a donation? Some will even match your personal contribution each year as a means of supporting the charities that are important to their employees. Spot your company name on this list, complete your company’s matching gift form, and send it to us where we’ll do the rest.
We give back, too.
Every season we provide a limited number of tickets for silent auctions, special events and giveaways throughout the calendar year. Priority is given to local and Ontario non-profit organizations with the following focus: mental health, food banks, housing for underserved communities, and integration of new immigrants. Fill out this form if you’d like to be considered for a donation from GCTC, taking note that we may not be able to honour all requests at this time.
