Propeller Dance presents:

“Frame of Mind”

A multimedia experience, Propeller Dance’s “Frame of Mind” features three videos, each exploring the theme of mental health through dance. With work from Cara Spooner, Ed Hanley, Jesse Stewart, and Shara Weaver, these videos offer viewpoints on mental health, bringing awareness to societal barriers and stigma.

A “Frame of Mind” ticket gives you on-demand access to three videos (1 hour total) starting on the 28th of February, plus a Zoom talkback** featuring the artists behind the productions on either March 4 or 5, 2022. You are free to watch the videos at any time, but are encouraged to do so before coming to the talkback.

This production is thanks to the support of TD Bank Group, through the TD Ready Commitment, and the CCA Digital Now streaming fund.

Content note: themes of mental illness, instances of loud vocalizations and swearing.

About the Productions

About “Frame of Mind”

The pressure on individuals with mental health diagnoses to transform/change therapeutically is immense thanks to the medical model. How can artists with mental health diagnoses be integrated into societal structures that are not set up to accommodate them? This was Propeller Dance's first investigation into Mad Dance work: sensory based, and nonlinear.

“Frame of Mind'' originally premiered in May 2019 at the Great Canadian Theatre Company. As we are immersed in pandemic times, Propeller Dance thought they would re-investigate the topic of mental health. The dance piece is about taking the time and space to discover our essence and true way of being.

About “P&G”

A music video set to kaleidoscopic images by Ed Hanley, with music from Jesse Stewart.

About “You and Us”

A dance production, “You&Us” is a 360° choreographic study for an audience of one, choreographed by Cara Spooner, working to shift perspectives on mental illness.

This film uses camera and editing effects that may make people or objects seem to appear or disappear.

The creators of this film value sharing stories about mental health experiences. Sometimes, these stories can include very difficult subject matter. We believe that creating space to talk about these difficult things is important and worthwhile.

However, you know your own limits, boundaries and body. If something feels like too much for you today, take a break, turn the film off or do what you need to take care of yourself. If you require support, please contact the Canada Suicide Prevention Service at 1-833-456-4566.
