The Creative Act: A Way of Being

by Rick Rubin

presented by Lisa MacDonald

About the book:

Legendary music producer Rick Rubin has spent a career thinking deeply about where creativity comes from and where it doesn't. In The Creative Act, he illuminates the path of the artist as a road we can all follow, distilling the wisdom gleaned from a lifetime’s work into a luminous reading experience that puts the power to create moments of exhilaration and transcendence within closer reach for all of us.

About the presenter:

An accomplished non-fiction book editor, Lisa MacDonald has helped many writers successfully bring their books to market. As the Editor in Chief of The Hilborn Publishing Group's flagship digital publication, Charity eNews, as well as Foundation Magazine, Lisa takes pride in bringing weekly information and innovative ideas to nonprofit sector leaders. Her latest projects include the Let’s Get Real Podcast, teaching writing at an Ottawa community centre, and completing a 45,000-word fiction manuscript for middle grade readers.

What is Stages & Pages?

A book talk series hosted by Octopus Books, exploring themes from GCTC’s mainstage shows.

Join us on the first Sunday of the show run, where a local expert will present and lead a discussion on a selected book. Octopus Books staff, who have read our 25-26 scripts, have selected an accompanying book based on themes in the show. Whether you read the book in advance or pick up a copy while you are here, we aim to further enhance your experience of the show.

This presentation is free, and takes place before our Pay-What-You-Decide performance. We encourage you to stick around to watch the show.

Note: Books selected for the program further explore themes or subject matter in or inspired by the show. They do not necessarily reflect the plot of the show.
