Meet The Staff - Taylor Vardy

Taylor Vardy (she/they) is a graduate of Queen’s University Drama and Humber College’s Arts Administration and Cultural Management programs. She has been working as GCTC’s Marketing and Development Coordinator since October 2021, just as restrictions were loosening up, and live theatre was about to happen once again! She says it has been a new challenge to work in ever-changing conditions that are entirely out of any person’s control, and has been inspired by how adaptable artists, organizations, and the community are.

Taylor’s first taste of GCTC was the production of “Behaviour” by Darrah Teitel, which was live-streamed to the comfort of her own student house in Kingston. Seeing a show live-streamed, intentionally done before it proved necessary in a pandemic, drew her into the work done at GCTC, and they knew if she were to ever make her way back to Ottawa, that was the company to get involved with. After seeing more shows, she also gives a special shout out to “Blissful State of Surrender” by Sanita Fejzić, who brilliantly mixed healing and humour.

A day-to-day at GCTC for Taylor looks like this:

  • Check the social media calendar to see if anything needs to go out

  • Create upcoming social media content including images and copy (the captions, for example)

  • Write newsletters and blog posts

  • Create and edit programs and web pages

  • Make TikToks in an effort to make GCTC go viral

Taylor also bartends on the Front of House team, and has loved getting to spend more time with the Box Office staff and other coordinators during show runs. Outside of GCTC, Taylor can usually be found with her nose in a book. She loves reading books of almost any genre, and has set a goal to read 150 books this year (the tally is currently at 42). Otherwise, Taylor loves spending time with their dog and friends - photo below.

When asked what she loves most about GCTC, Taylor said: “the people for sure. I’ve loved getting to know everyone and have been inspired by their creativity, dedication, and kindness. I have also learned so much from Jared Davidson, our Marketing and Communications Manager (who is amazing at what he does), that I know I can take forward into my career. GCTC is a great place to grow.”
