Lawyer Play 2011
As Arthur Miller himself wrote, The Crucible explores, “one of the strangest and most awful chapters in human history.” In a time when religion and law were still inextricably linked, church leaders were not always respected but were always obeyed. And their word was gospel, even to the ears of judges and governors. The Crucible tells the story of the Salem Witch trials, in which 19 people were sentenced to death based only on the suspicion of many and the dubious testimony of a few.
The stars of this year's production represent all walks of the legal profession in Ottawa, ranging from articling students all the way to Justices of the Supreme Court. They are: Stephen Acker,
The GCTC/CCLA Lawyer Play is an annual fundraising project that supports the operations of the Great Canadian Theatre Company. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit local charity Operation Come Home.
