Preview showing of Walking on Water March 6, 2002

Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC) and Carleton County Law Association announced today, with tickets selling extremely well for the three main performances, a preview showing of Dave Carley's Walking on Water on March 6, 2002. This is a special event fundraiser, with proceeds directed to the Catherine Helen MacLean Memorial Fund, GCTC, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The cast is made up of lawyers from the Ottawa law community who are donating their time and talent to this initiative. The performances will take place on March 7-9, 2002 at GCTC, 910 Gladstone Avenue, and tickets are $100.00. They include: one show-ticket and intermission refreshments, a catered reception to follow at Trattoria Caffe Italia Sopra (Preston & Gladstone); a tax receipt will be issued for the maximum allowable amount ($65). Tickets for the March 6 preview are $25 (performance only) and are available at the GCTC Box Office. Showtime for all performances is 7:30 pm.

Catherine MacLean's life ended tragically on January 27, 2001, when she was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by a Russian diplomat. She has been commemorated with the creation of the Catherine Helen MacLean Memorial Fund at the University of Ottawa, designed in part to offer student bursaries at its Law School. The partners of the law firm Nelligan O'Brien Payne have donated $5,000 to this production as Gold Sponsors. In addition to her practice at Nelligan O'Brien Payne, Catherine was a popular part-time professor at the University of Ottawa.

Walking On Water is Dave Carley's Canadian murder-mystery. One morning in 1949, Lee Kwan, chauffeur for an Ontario city's newspaper publisher, is found dead under his employer's Packard. It is quickly apparent that Lee did not die of natural causes - but who murdered him, and why? All of Walking on Water's wonderfully complex characters have secrets to hide and stories to tell and they are, in fact, all dead!

The all-lawyer cast includes Judith Allen, Master Robert Beaudoin, Mitch Charness, Peter Doody, Katherine Evans, Mitch Kitagawa, Doug Menzies, Golan Mergui, Russ Molot, Lise Parent, Shawn Peers, Ian Stauffer, Tara Sweeney. Set Design by Art Penson, Costume Design by Sue Fijalkowska, Lighting Design by Shane Learmonth and the Stage Manager is Shainna Laviolette.
