GCTC & County of Carleton Law Association present the 8th Annual Lawyer Play Fundraiser Gala Performances March 1-3, 2007
Ottawa, ON - Friday, February 16, 2007: An annual tradition in the calendars of GCTC and the Ottawa legal community, the 8th annual Lawyer Play brings together more than 40 Ottawa judges, magistrates and lawyers to tread the boards of the Great Canadian Theatre Company, Ottawa’s own professional theatre. Museum, written by Tina Howe and directed by Janet Irwin, is a performance fundraiser that plays March 1 - 3 at GCTC, 910 Gladstone Avenue, Ottawa.
Expecting a sell-out run of performances, GCTC and the County of Carleton Law Association are very proud to announce their 2007 charity partnership with The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada. GCTC Board of Directors’ Chair Mark Sutcliffe is pleased with the arrangement. He says, “We want to raise funds for GCTC, a not-for-profit professional theatre company, and we want to work with the Children’s Wish Foundation to make a real difference in the lives of children in the National Capital Region living with high risk, life-threatening illnesses.” Lynn Noel, Fundraising/Volunteer Coordinator for The Children’s Wish Foundation (National Capital Region Chapter), agrees: “In our work to date, we have granted just over 780 wishes to children living in our own region. Every wish is as unique as every child – from trips to Hawaii to a bedroom makeover or to meeting a favourite celebrity. We are honoured to be selected by GCTC and the County of Carleton Law Association to be the charity partner for this year’s Lawyer Play.”
Museum is a satire of the modern art world. It takes place on the final day of a visual art exhibition staged in a vast white room on the 2nd floor of a major American museum. The cast portrays a number of characters and consists of the “who’s who” in the city’s legal community with special guest cameo appearances by such notables as Justice Lynn Ratushny, Hilary McCormick, John Manley, Master Robert Beaudoin, Justice Douglas Rutherford and Justice Colin McKinnon as “The Voice.”
