Great Canadian Theatre Company Proudly Announces A New Record - Over 3,000 Subscribers
GCTC's 2003 - 2004 Season has just begun, but records are breaking early.
For the third straight season, GCTC has set a new mark for subscribers, hitting for the first time, the 3,000 mark in subscribers. That's an increase from 2,750 for all of last season. Revenue totals are over $40,000 ahead of last season's total. The Great Canadian Comedy Series, which premiered to huge success last season, also saw a big increase, bringing in $20,000 more in subscription totals than the previous season.
"We have worked very hard to respond to the needs of our patrons and to offer them a variety of programming choices," said Artistic Director Lorne Pardy. "This endorsement allows us to move forward with our artistic and administrative goals with full confidence. I am very pleased."
GCTC season has started strongly with Kevin Kerr's Unity (1918). Closing this Sunday, strong word of mouth and critical praise has this production selling to full houses. Catherine Lawson of the Ottawa Citizen called it, "a super play. GCTC opens with a winner." Next up is the timely political farce Feelgood by Alistair Beaton, starring GCTC Artistic Director Lorne Pardy and directed by GCTC Managing Director Charles McFarland.
"From 1,600 subscribers five years ago to over 3,000 this season - and still more to come - is a great testament to the national quality of GCTC's work and amazing leap in Ottawa's response to its own professional theatre," said Managing Director Charles McFarland, "If you've been putting off buying that season pass, don't delay any longer."
