Great Canadian Theatre Company Announces First Day of Digging!

Ottawa, ON, September 14, 2005 - Chair Mark Sutcliffe and the Board of Directors happily announce the first day of construction at the Great Canadian Theatre Company's new site at the corner of Wellington and Holland in Weborough. GCTC anticipates complettion of The Irving Greenberg Theatre Centre in March 2007.

GCTC's new home will include a 270-seat mainstage theatre (an increase of 40 seas), with increased leg room; a 95-seat studio theatre; a generous atrium-like, "open concept" lobby featuring a swooped staircase to the second floor; better washroom facilities; a coffee shop; female and male dressing rooms and a separate green room; full production facilities and storage; a large multi-purpose room for readings, meetings, etc.; and proper box office and administrative offices.

At completion the entire complex, from theatre to the 10 floors of condominiums above will be the first gold-certified residential complex in Canada under the internationally respected Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. The project was initiated by the Windmill Development Group, who see The Currents, the name of the entire complex, as a reflection of its commitment to sustainable living at the highest possible level.
