GCTC Delivers a Dinnerless Party From Hell in Life X 3

Ottawa, ON, May 17, 2006 –Life x 3 opens at the Great Canadian Theatre Company on Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 8:00 pm. Previews from May 30.
It’s a dinnerless party from hell!
Henry and Sonia are putting their son to bed and settling in for a quiet evening at home when an unexpected knock at their door throws their lives into chaos. Hubert, Henry’s colleague, and his wife Inez show up for an important business dinner - a day early! Thus begins Life x 3, Yasmina Reza’s Broadway hit filled with the hilarity and poignancy that made her earlier work, Art, such a huge success.
Civilized behavior is soon left at the door as the evening comically spirals downward. With no food in the house, Henry and Sonia are left to offer their guests a creative spread with lots of wine. Competitive spirits are evoked regarding parenting skills. Marital spats erupt and Inez discovers an ever-growing run in her pantyhose. Combine all of these events with Hubert’s lecherous advances and Sonia’s shameless flirtation and you have Reza’s comedy Life x 3.
In the tradition of movies such as Sliding Doors and Groundhog Day, Reza delivers three hilarious variations of the same dinner party scene, making this a play with seemingly infinite variety and humor.
Life x 3 has had crowds knee slapping in London, England, New York as well as regional theatres across the U.S. Playwright Yasmina Reza has received critical acclaim as well, having received the Pulitzer Prize for Art as well as the Tony Award and the Sir Laurence Olivier Award in 1998.
The production features some of Ottawa’s finest actors: Mary Ellis, Susan Glover, John Koensgen and former Artistic Director, Lorne Pardy.
Life x 3 is directed by GCTC’s past Artistic Director Micheline Chevrier. Set and costumes are designed by Kim Nielsen; Lighting design by Martin Conboy; Sound Composition and Design by Marc Desormeaux and the stage managed by Susan A. Jennings.
Life x 3 previews May 30 and 31, opens Thursday, June 1, and runs until June 18.
