Most of the conversations I have these days begin with my response to a statement that goes something like this: “You must be happy with Proud.” Let’s cut to the chase and say that “happy” is vast understatement. I am thrilled – and not just because the production is selling like hotcakes. I am thrilled because people across the spectrum are paying attention. The mainstream media, notorious for its dwindling interest in theatre, devoted an unprecedented amount of airtime and column space to the show prior to opening night. And once it did open, the reviews came fast, furious and positive.

It was an exciting weekend at GCTC. Our first Bike-A-Thon took its launch this past Sunday morning, September 15th. It was a beautiful day, with nice and crisp weather perfectly fit for biking. Seventeen fearless bikers gathered at GCTC early Sunday morning, ready to ride for great Canadian theatre. The spirit and enthusiasm of the participants were admirable, not to mention some skillfully crafted bee costumes and accessories that caused quite a buzz along the biking paths, being a delightful sight not only for kids but for adults too.

Hello,

We had a very exciting evening last night with the opening of Proud by Michael Healey. It is an honour to be producing Michael's work and especially such an intelligent and witty play. Tickets are selling fast so don't get caught without one. Tonight we are launching a new program called Friday Fight Nights sponsored by Hill Times - it is a debate series that will happen on the first Friday of the run of each play after the show.

I have been assigned a leading role in this weekend's Bike-a-thon. It is my great pleasure to lead the pelaton through the course, riding my red Nishiki Olympic road bike, purchased in downtown Guelph at Forum Sports in the spring of 1986. I splurged $500 on its magnificent chro-moly double-butted frame and alloy components.
