Pinch me!

The GCTC is a pretty remarkable place, with some pretty remarkable people working hard to make the artistic director’s vision come to life. This was really apparent at our recent 14/15 40th anniversary season launch where all of us behind the scenes were made a part of the announcement. Our fearless box office agents, local artists, administrators and curators all gathered together and pitched in to help Eric tell the secrets that we’ve all been keeping for months now.  If you’ve been under a rock for the past few days and missed the season line up, here it is.

Coming from a national arts background, it’s been so interesting for me to focus on theatre that directly impacts my environment here in Ottawa. Local playwrights writing new works for local artists; local visual artists working with local curators; local IATSE members crewing local shows. For the first time in my life it feels like everything I’m working toward is nurturing the theatrical experience right in my own backyard. Of course it’s important to expand and grow, to be exposed to new artists and other work from across the country and around the world, but I’m experiencing true joy focusing on my own theatre world right here in Ottawa. It really feels wonderful.

As my internship nears its halfway mark (sniff) I look forward to new experiences here at GCTC:  My first Lawyer Play directed by the wonderful Pat Gauthier, the final show of the season (and seeing Eric on stage!) all while learning the ins and outs of programming for the next season … there are still a lot of ‘pinch me’ moments ahead!
