Good Kids

Last weekend I rented the Studio for a sweet 16 birthday party for twins.  The party was mostly planned by mom of course, with home made cupcakes and a great spread of sandwiches. The studio lights were put on “Party Mode” with Sean’s (our studio tech) special touches of fun to make the room look like something out of a 60’s dance bar.  The surprise to me was that instead of getting presents the teenagers opted for a donation to a charity they both believed in.  Plan Canada was the choice; a charity that helps families and communities break the cycle of poverty and build sustainable solutions for improving their own lives.   The birthday kids had advertised on their birthday invitations to do this so when the teenagers came to the party they placed the envelope gift to Plan Canada in the bowl at the entrance to the theatre.  What’s amazing to me is that the message got to the guests and not one person arrived with a wrapped gift.  I don’t know how much was raised for Plan Canada but what I do know is that the priorities of this Ottawa family, teenagers included, are in the right place and the group of well mannered party goers deserve a pat on the back for participating in what I hope is a new trend in teenage parties!
