Shannon Reynolds Memorial Endowment Fund Internship at GCTC

The Shannon Reynolds Memorial Endowment Fund, in partnership with Ottawa's Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC), supports Canadian artists that self-represent as female, through the provision of paid, mentored theatrical internships. Each year, the endowment seeks artists in a different theatrical discipline, with a particular focus on production (lighting design, sound design, production design, carpentry, stage management and directing). The fund welcomes submissions from artists at the beginning of their careers as well as those branching into a new practice. It is dedicated to the creative development, peer recognition and professional support of Ottawa's emerging female artists.

Over a three-year cycle, the internship supports a director, designer, or producer/technician. Applicants must be residents of the National Capital Region.

For the 2018-19 season, we are welcoming submissions from candidates with an interest in theatre design including – but not limited to – sound, set and lighting design. This internship will take part in two phases:

Phase I: The selected intern will be matched with a mentor designer on a GCTC production in the 2018-19 season to experience the full arc of a professional design and execution process.

Phase II: As a candidate, individuals will be asked to propose a major project in their design field to execute at the end of their internship (Spring 2019). Suggestions of what this project might look like include:

·         Designing (or gaining additional design experience on) a major GCTC project (e.g. the Lawyer Play),

·         Inviting GCTC to support your design work for an independent company in Ottawa;

·         Developing a theoretical project "of your dreams," which GCTC can support and provide feedback.

In each case, the Production Department at GCTC will provide support and oversight to the candidate. GCTC will be open to a relationship with a partner company or entity should the project take place at another venue or under the umbrella of another organization.
