CALL FOR STAGE MANAGER AND ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

GCTC/CCLA Fundraiser Production of Agatha Christie's The Rule of Three

OVERVIEW:

The Great Canadian Theatre Company is accepting applications for a Stage Manager and an Assistant Stage Manager for its upcoming Spring 2018 lawyer play fundraiser production of The Rule of Three by Agatha Christie.  The Lawyer Play is a major annual fundraiser that GCTC has produced for the last 18 years in collaboration with the Ottawa Law Community and the Carleton County Law Association (CCLA).  Members of our local legal community act in play that raises funds for GCTC and a charity partner, chosen each year by the CCLA.  GCTC provides a professional production team to support the project, including members of Stage Management.

Applicants may be Equity Artists or non-Equity Artists.

1. THE STAGE MANAGER

  • Attends all rehearsals, tech week activities involving the cast and creative team, cue recording sessions and the performance run of the Lawyer Play,
  • Creates and maintains a contact list for a large volunteer cast and acts as a primary contact for all rehearsal or performance communications,
  • Works with the Director to provide practical organizational support to the cast and creative team, including coordinating, recording and  tracking all onstage activities throughout the rehearsal process,
  • Creates and maintains a prompt book of all blocking notes for the cast and creative team, and documents all technical lighting, sound, and special effect cues throughout the rehearsal and technical setup process,
  • Communicates regularly with the Production Manager, Production Crew Members and Designers on all requirements in the rehearsal hall and throughout the setup period on the Mainstage at GCTC,
  • Oversees the activities of the Assistant Stage Manager on all onstage and backstage actions,
  • Calls all lighting, sound, set, special effect and actor cues "on book" during the run of the production.


Stage Manager Qualifications:

 

  • You have worked as a Stage Manager for large cast productions (15+ cast members), including work with volunteer cast members,
  • You are prepared to work in a professional theatre environment in conjunction with a professional design team within the Production Department at GCTC,
  • You demonstrate impeccable paperwork and a high degree of competence in communication throughout the creative process,
  • You are willing and able to support the production efforts of a large fundraising event alongside a professional fundraising team.


Stage Manager Fee:

  • A competitive hourly fee will negotiated with the Stage Manager.  Where applicable, the Stage Manager may be signed under a DOT (Dance, Opera , Theatre) Policy agreement through Equity.

2. THE ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

  • Attends all rehearsals beginning in mid-April, attend all cue recording sessions, tech week, and the performance run of the Lawyer Play,
  • Maintains a stage management prompt script of all blocking decisions and changes for the cast and creative team, and assists the Stage Manager with tracking of all technical lighting, sound, and special effect cues throughout the rehearsal and technical setup process,
  • Communicates regularly with the Stage Manager, Production Manager, Production Crew Members and Designers on all requirements from the rehearsal hall and throughout the period on the Mainstage at GCTC,
  • Is responsible for all onstage and backstage actions in conjunction with the Stage Manager,
  • Assists the Stage Manager backstage during the run of the production on headset, coordinates with backstage crew members, and aids with communication with the cast.

 

Assistant Stage Manager Qualifications:

  • You have worked as a  Stage Manager or Assistant Stage Manager for large cast productions (15+ cast members), including work with volunteer cast members,
  • You are prepared to work in a professional theatre environment in conjunction with a professional design team within the Production Department at GCTC,
  • You demonstrate impeccable paperwork and a high degree of competence in communication throughout the creative process,
  • You are willing and able to support the production efforts of a large fundraising event alongside a professional fundraising team.

Assistant Stage Manager Fee:

The Assistant Stage Manager will receive an honorarium, commensurate with experience and availability.-----

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE:

  • The rehearsal schedule for the Lawyer Play runs from the second week of March until the last week of May 2018, with regular rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Sunday afternoons.
  • The technical production period takes place during the week of May 28th 2018, and the run week is the week of June 4th 2018.
  • The Stage Manager must be available for the entire production schedule. The schedule for the Assistant Stage Manager may be subject to availability.
